I tested a pack of cassettes that I bought on Ebay a while back. Here’s what I tried.

….and using a Tascam PortaStudio 454 with tape speed at 3.75ips will make any tape sound good.
Real test would be to use a consumer, two track deck at the 1-7/8ips speed using the Normal 120 bias setting.
